From Drums to Director:
How Jason Bradley Transforms KC’s Sound

When you think of Kansas City’s biggest entertainment moments—booming Chiefs watch parties, electric nights at Mosaic, or the NFL Draft lighting up downtown—you probably don’t picture the guy behind the soundboard. But for Jason Bradley, that’s exactly where the magic is made.
In Episode 5 of Backstage with Lost Wax, Jason joins Eb and Pat on the big brown couch to unpack his journey from bar-band drummer to the National Director of Production for Live! Hospitality & Entertainment. His story is a testament to curiosity, hustle, and the underrated power of knowing how to run a kick drum through a gate.

From Jazz Band to a Rogue Kick Drum
Jason made the move to Kansas City from a tiny place called Scotland County with dreams of being a full-time paid musician. Jason’s music journey started similarly to much of the crew in Lost Wax– playing in high school jazz band, jamming in classic rock groups, and gigging in tribute bands.
But like many in the biz, he hit a turning point in the least glamorous of moments.
“One night during a break in a bar gig, I went to grab a beer and this low-end hum just started vibrating the whole room. It was my kick drum—it didn’t have a gate on it. That one moment made me think, ‘Why does it sound like that?’ I went down the rabbit hole of fixing it, and I never came back,” Jason reflected.
That rabbit hole led to gear obsessions, mixing for other bands, and eventually realizing he could make more money (and a bigger impact) off the stage. “I got a lot of compliments and thought ‘maybe I’m good at this,’” he said.
From House Gigs to National Stages
As Jason built his reputation as a sound guy, he racked up experience doing everything from bar gigs at PBR to full-blown festival setups with production company DSS. Soon, his attention to detail and calm-under-pressure attitude got him an offer to handle entertainment production at Kansas City’s Power & Light District.
Jason spent the better part of eight years enduring long hours and cross-country travel, and he was eventually promoted to National Director of Production for all of Live! Hospitality & Entertainment’s properties. That includes venues in Atlanta, Philly, Dallas, Orlando, Miami, Baltimore, and Ballpark Village in St. Louis.
“Cordish is great to work for. They’re a family-owned company, and they’ve grown significantly in the 13 years of me knowing them,” Jason said.
Happy to be one of the few who landed where he’s meant to be, he reflected on his growth in the industry, and remarked, “Some people go to college and they’re very specific about what they want to do, and other people bounce around in life and ironically end up doing what they love.”
“Some of the better sound guys I’ve worked with didn’t go to school for it. They were passionate and got into it at a young age and worked their way up,” Patrick agreed.
Jason’s career proves what happens when a rogue kick drum sparks a lifelong obsession—and you follow it all the way to the top.
Investing in the Wow Factor
In recent years, Jason has been at the helm of some major upgrades in Kansas City nightlife—most notably the full reinvention of Mosaic, one of downtown KC’s most legendary nightclubs.
“If a nightclub makes it past five years, it earns a legendary status. This time, we stripped Mosaic down, added square footage, and went all-in on production. People want more than just drinks and dancing. We wanted to double down on that wow factor.”
The Power & Light District as a whole received a $10 million refresh, focused heavily on the theatrics– lighting and immersive design so that when you walk in there’s a noticeable wow factor.
“They call KC a flyover city, but there’s so much happening here. We’ve got high-end clubs, all different genres. There’s something for everybody,” Eboni remarked.
How Chiefs Watch Parties Helped Land the World Cup
You’ve probably seen it—ESPN cuts to KC Live! packed with red jerseys and roaring fans. Or maybe you’ve heard about the FIFA World Cup coming to Kansas City in 2026. According to Jason, those unforgettable crowd moments during Chiefs watch parties helped put KC on the global map, having recently landed the contract for the World Cup.
Much of that success comes down to Live!’s philosophy of putting people first.
“If you think money first or act selfishly, the guest always suffers. But when you think through the lens of ‘what’s best for the guest,’ everything improves—from partnerships to production,” Jason said.
The NFL Draft & Lost Wax
Jason’s production brain was hard at work when the NFL Draft came to KC and C3 Productions (the group that books for the NFL) called to book a band.
“I asked all the nerdy production questions and then gave them a few options for bands,” Jason said. He told them to go with Lost Wax because live TV is intense. You’ve got a director in your ear, a tight schedule, and the need for a band that can pivot without blinking. “There aren’t a lot of bands that can do what I knew you could do and jump in musically to follow the directives,” Jason said.
The NFL Draft wasn’t just another show for Lost Wax—it became a launching point.
“It took us to new heights. It changed our goals and led directly to opportunities like the HBO Second Chance Stage. The doors just keep opening,” Patrick remarked, “and we owe a lot of that to Jason.”
Jason adds, “I don’t care how much I like someone—I won’t recommend a bad product. But you guys have the product to match the relationship, and I knew my reputation would stay intact.”
Behind the Curtain: Work Ethic, Relationships, and Obsession
Whether it’s corporate events or private weddings, Jason says the key to longevity in this industry is the same: obsession.
“You’ve gotta be a little obsessed with the what-ifs and worst-case scenarios. Think through every layer. If something goes wrong early, it can derail the whole event,” he said.
Add in 10-12 hour days, late nights, and high stakes—and it’s clear the events industry isn’t for the faint of heart.
“But if you love it, it’s worth it,” Jason says. “My hobby is my job, and I’m okay with that.”
A Midwest Mentality, A Global Impact
The podcast wraps with stories of the humble beginnings of Travis Kelce inviting his mom backstage at KC Live!, and the reminder that even at the highest levels of fame and production, it all comes back to relationships, humility, and hard work.
As Kansas City continues to grow, leaders like Jason Bradley are ensuring its music and event scene keeps pace, not just in volume but in quality and heart, all while keeping that Midwest essence intact.
Because often, the loudest impact comes from those quietly working behind the scenes to make everything run like a dream.
