Most wedding bands play one song, stop, say a few words, count off the next one and start again. That pause only lasts a few seconds, but it’s long enough for a dance floor to thin out. Lost Wax works differently. We’re the Original Mashup Party Band: we take hits from six decades of Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop and R&B, blend them live, and keep the music going without a break.

TL;DR

  • Mashups: two or three songs played over each other, so you get the best part of each one, often in a combination nobody has heard before.

  • Nonstop: one song flows straight into the next, with no gaps, tuning breaks or dead air between them.

  • Built around your crowd: every set is shaped for your event and your guests’ ages, and if a favorite isn’t on our list, we’ll learn it.

What a live mashup actually sounds like

A mashup puts the hook of one song on top of the groove of another. Imagine a Beyoncé vocal over an old-school hip-hop break, or a Lizzo chorus that slides into Chic and Justin Timberlake without missing a beat. Those are real Lost Wax arrangements. “Break My Soul / The Breaks” and our “Lizzo Boys” medley (Lizzo, Macklemore, Chic, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Billie Eilish) are on our music videos page [confirm URL]. Consider embedding one of them right here.

For guests, it’s like hearing a favorite song with a surprise built in. The grandparents recognize the Motown bassline, the college friends recognize the hip-hop verse, and everybody ends up on the floor for the same three minutes.

Why nonstop music keeps the dance floor full

The biggest risk at any reception is the moment the energy drops. With a traditional band, that happens between songs, and it happens dozens of times a night.

When the music never stops:

  • People leave the floor when a song ends. If it never really ends, they don’t leave.

  • The energy keeps building. Each transition can push the tempo up a little or drop in a bigger hook, so the peak of the night keeps climbing.

  • Short attention spans are fine. Mashups and medleys move to the next big moment before any song can drag, so you don’t sit through a slow second verse or a long outro.

  • It feels like a club, with live musicians. You get the seamless flow of a great DJ plus the showmanship of a full live band

How we build your set

  1. Tell us your must-plays and do-not-plays. Our song list covers Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop, R&B, Country, Motown, Disco and more, and if something’s missing, we’ll learn it.

  2. We map the night. Ceremony, cocktail hour, first dance, parent dances and specialty moments like a hora or a line-dance set all get planned ahead.

  3. We read the room live. Once the floor opens, we steer the mashups toward whatever’s working: more ’90s hip-hop if your friends are going wild, more Motown if the aunts and uncles have taken over.

Your first dance can still be a single song, played straight and beautifully. Then the floor opens and the nonstop part of the night begins.
