Dance Monkey (Tones and I, Paula Abdul)

Dance Monkey (Tones and I, Paula Abdul)

Lost Wax recorded this Dance Monkey mashup at Chapter 2 Recording Studio. First, the vocalists take on “Dance Monkey” by Tones and I. Then the band slides into “Straight Up” by Paula Abdul. As a result, a 2019 hit and an ’80s classic become one song. In addition, you can see full credits for the singers, musicians and crew below.

Inside the Recording

First, the four lead vocalists set the tone. Eboni Fondren, Lyndsey Lou, Shelby Winfrey and Laura Noble trade lines and stack harmonies throughout. Meanwhile, Patrick Woolam keeps things moving on guitar. At the same time, Zach Morrow holds down the beat on drums.

In addition, Chris Davis and Anthony Saunders wrote the music, and Chris Davis produced it. After that, Rob Rebeck mixed the track. Then Nick Stacy and Dani Elle of Reverie Studios shot the video, with creative direction by Jimmy Lopez. In fact, the crew filmed the whole video on an iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Why the Mashup Works

Above all, this mashup shows how Lost Wax connects generations. After all, the group is the original Mashup Party Band, with tracks spanning six decades of Pop, Rock, Hip Hop and R&B. As a result, a 2019 hit from Tones and I fits right next to Paula Abdul’s ’80s classic. In other words, younger guests and their parents can sing along together. Similarly, the band brings that same approach to weddings, corporate events and private parties.
